The Synergy of Human Intelligence (HI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

This page serves as an active declaration of AI-HI Collaborative Practices. By establishing this documentation, the DIVETOUR2 consortium aims to create an open-source, reproducible framework. We invite future European Union educational, vocational, and technological projects to adopt, expand, and standardize this model of digital transparency.

1. Purpose of this Statement

Much like a data privacy policy informs users about how their data is handled, this statement outlines how Artificial Intelligence has been integrated into the workflow of the DIVETOUR2 project. Our goal is to provide full transparency on the hybrid approach used to merge human expertise (HI) with generative AI capabilities, establishing a best-practice model for future European Union educational and technological initiatives.

2. The Core Philosophy: Human-Led, AI-Assisted

All AI integration within this project operates under a strict “Human-in-the-Loop” (HITL) framework. AI acts as an accelerator, an analytical tool, and a drafting assistant, but human intelligence holds absolute authority over conceptualization, ethical alignment, final approvals, and strategic direction, especially concerning Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles in vocational education and training (VET).

3. Areas of Collaboration

We have categorized the AI-HI synergy into the following functional areas:

A. Ideation and Strategy

  • The HI Role: Defining the overarching goals of integrating DEI and AI skills into the tourism sector, managing transnational meetings, and setting the pedagogical framework for the five learning modules.
  • The AI Role: Acting as a sounding board for brainstorming, helping to structure complex concepts, and proposing gamified mechanics for educational tools, such as the RPG-inspired board game.

B. Technical Development and Coding

  • The HI Role: Architecting the digital infrastructure, managing server-side deployments, and defining precise technical requirements for certification standards.
  • The AI Role: Assisting in the rapid prototyping of code, specifically in developing the custom WordPress plugin for issuing verifiable open badges utilizing JWS architecture. AI was also used to debug scripts, optimize SEO strategies, and recommend technical pathways for robust platform performance.

C. Content Creation and Educational Design

  • The HI Role: Curating the tone, ensuring cultural sensitivity, and anchoring all educational materials in real-world VET tourism contexts.
  • The AI Role: Generating initial drafts for a wide array of content, including technical articles, video scripts, and interactive learning tools like crossword puzzles, accelerating the production pipeline while maintaining alignment with the established pedagogical frameworks.

D. Analysis, Correction, and Quality Assurance

  • The HI Role: Conducting final reviews, validating outputs against the European framework for project management, and ensuring total compliance with web accessibility standards.
  • The AI Role: Performing preliminary evaluations of code and text, assisting in translating complex technical jargon into accessible language, and providing structural reviews of the five learning modules to ensure consistency before human validation.

4. Ethical Commitment and Bias Mitigation

Generative AI models are tools built on statistical probabilities and can carry inherent biases. To safeguard the integrity of the project:

  • Every AI-generated output is heavily scrutinized to ensure it meets our rigorous DEI standards.
  • AI is never used to make automated decisions impacting users, learners, or project stakeholders.
  • The human team takes full accountability for all final deliverables, utilizing AI strictly as a collaborative instrument rather than a replacement for professional judgment.
